Four methods of cover describe how a shooter uses cover relative to their body to stay protected while still able to engage. The four are front cover, mid cover, strong-side cover, and support-side cover. Front cover protects the chest area when facing the threat. Mid cover uses cover along the body's centerline, allowing you to stay protected while keeping your weapon in a good line of sight. Strong-side cover sits on the dominant side, enabling efficient shooting from behind cover with the weapon aligned for quick target acquisition. Support-side cover is on the non-dominant side, offering protection as you move or reload and transition your aim, while keeping balance and control.

These four cover positions span the directions you need to defend against threats and move safely. Options that include rear or back cover aren’t part of this standard set, so they aren’t correct.
